My Experience With Smile Makers The Poet
First Impressions
I love the aesthetics of the The Poet, and the materials. It’s understated, and the super soft silicone feels great on the skin. It was also great that they included 3 different sized tips for the toy, as clitoral inclusivity is definitely something that isn’t usually thought about. However, when I came to using it, there wasn’t so much that I enjoyed. Of course, it really comes down to personal preference, but The Poet might not be for everybody.
Mismatched Expectations
My main criticism is that this toy is advertised as ‘suction simulator’ and as recreating ‘oral sex’, but I didn’t experience anything of the sort. This might be a problem with the term ‘clitoral suction stimulator‘ in general, as these generally use air-pulse technology rather than actual suction. I don’t have such a sensitive clitoris, and the Poet doesn’t have the strongest vibrations or air pulse. So, naturally, I squeezed he sensors to increase the intensity. This did turn the vibes up, but once pressed on the body it immediately cut out. Very frustrating! When holding the sensors down, it can get tricky to keep them going without getting cramp in your hand, and this seems to make the toy cut out easier. Also, though The Poet is definitely quiet, I noticed there is a really annoying beeping sounds that happens when in use. I thought there was a drone outside my window at first!
Design
I can honestly say without a doubt, The Poet from Smile Makers is one of the most beautiful toys I’ve owned. Everything down to the shape and feel of the toy is absolutely on point; the bulbed, floral design looks so cute and discreet. The silicone feels like nothing I’ve ever felt before; it’s the softest, silkiest material that feels amazing against the skin. You can ‘lock’ your favorite setting onto the toy by holding the sensors to achieve your preferred intensity and holding the power button at the same time. I was also extremely happy to see that the toy came with 3 interchangeable mouth pieces — finally, some clitoral inclusivity!
Ease of Use
When it comes to actually using the Poet instead of gawking at its beauty, this is where it starts to lose me a bit. First, I’ll say that the controls are pretty simple; there is one small button on the front of the toy which turns it on and off, but is also used to cycle through 5 different pulsation modes. Then, there is the sensors on the side of the bulb which, when squeezed, increase the intensity of the vibrations.
The problem is that the vibration is quite weak and there is no suction, and so if pressing the toy to your body to try and feel something, it will promptly cut the vibrations off. You also have to hold the sensors constantly if you want a stronger vibration, and this can tire your fingers out easily.
Quality
The quality of the Smile Makers The Poet is everything you’d expect from such a high-quality brand regarding noise level, feeling, look, and durability. When in use, the poet is almost silent and only jumps a little louder once the sensors are touched. The problem is that it tends to cut out when pressed against the body.
Price
Considering The Poet includes 3 different sized mouth attachments, and a satin storage bag, I would usually say that this is definitely worth the money. However, when compared to products such as the Satisfyer Pro 2 (which is much cheaper and much more powerful), I’d have to say that the price of The Poet might not match what it has to offer. I would expect powerful mechanics and sensations, which The Poet doesn’t seem to give.
Performance
I would say the Smile Makers The Poet does not perform so well on the suction end, despite being advertised that it does. I found that despite charging it for the full two hours, it would cut out suddenly when pressed down onto the body. The website specifies that the toy creates the sensation of ‘oral sex’, however I think it’s leaps and bounds from the real thing! Perhaps if you try to think of it as its own thing, rather than compare it to oral, you might have a more fulfilling experience!
Packaging
The packaging for The Poet was super discreet, and the box in which it is presented is a quality design. I haven’t thrown it away! It comes in a round box which is easy to open and store your toy, and could be perfect for gifting, too.
Materials and care
The Poet is made from body-safe silicone and is 100% waterproof. This means it’s a breeze to clean! Simply remove the attachable mouth and clean the bulb with warm, soapy water, then thoroughly towel-dry afterwards. The only part of the toy that I found difficult to clean was the head attachments as they have very deep grooves in them which were hard to reach.

How to use Smile Makers The Poet
If you’ve used a clitoral suction stimulator before, then using The Poet should be a breeze! For those that aren’t familiar with these brilliant little inventions, we’ve put a little guide together of how to get the most out of your toy.
Find somewhere comfortable that you can relax as you experiment. Preferably, you’ll want to be lying on your back as you use The Poet as this gives the best access, so using a bed is ideal. You might also like to tease yourself a bit first in order to get in the mood. Try touching yourself, or if with a partner have them touch and tease you.
Once you’re relaxed, you’ll need to apply some water-based lube to your clitoris and the mouth of the toy itself. This enhances your pleasure and helps keep things smooth.
While the most popular position is to lie on your back with your legs spread as you use the toy, there are many others to try. Some people might enjoy sitting in a chair as they use it, standing, on their knees, or even in front of a mirror. Whatever works for you!
Of course, The Poet is a great toy to use with a partner. It’s great for foreplay and teasing, and is a sensual toy to have a partner use on you. Try using it on the nipples as well as the clitoris.
FAQ
Is The Poet worth it?
This all depends on what you’re looking for in a toy. If you have a clitoris that is very sensitive then this might be for you as it doesn’t go overboard with the sensations. Price-wise, The Poet comes with a storage bag and 3 mouth attachments for inclusivity.
Is The Poet a clit sucker?
Although it is advertised as a ‘clit sucker’, The Poet doesn’t deliver any actual suction or if it does, it’s very weak. Instead, it uses pulses of air that move a drum in the mouth of the toy to create pulsating waves. If you’re looking for a toy that actually sucks on the clit, then the Poet might not be for you.
How do you clean The Poet?
To clean the toy properly you need to remove the head attachment and set it aside. Next, use antibacterial soap and warm water to clean the toy all over; do the same with the attachment and then use a clean, dry towel to dry the toy.
Can The Poet only be used on the clitoris?
The Poet was designed as a clitoral stimulation toy, however there is no rule that says it isn’t suitable to be used on other areas of the body! Try it on the nipples or perineum, too!
I have a larger/smaller clitoris, can I use The Poet?
Yes! The best thing about The Poet is that it comes equipped with 3 different sized attachments for ultimate clitoral inclusivity
